On the eastern bank of the Raab, where flowers and plants have ideal conditions to grow, the busy bees are working hard. Honey is produced in this fertile region- a liquid gold.

Honey is produced by honey bees for their own food provisions and also enjoyed by humans. Honey is made of:

• the nectar of flowers or
• the sugary excretions of different insects, the so-called honeydew

Honey consists of about 200 different ingredients. The composition can vary widely depending on the type of honey. The quantitatively most important ingredients are fructose (27 to 44%), glucose (22 to 41%) and water (about 18%). Other typical ingredients are other sugars, pollen, minerals, proteins, enzymes, amino acids, vitamins, colorings and flavorings. Honey can be liquid or crystallized. The form it takes depends mainly on the ratio of the two simple sugars fructose and glucose from each other, but also depends on how the honey is processed and stored.
